Dreamers and Realists

Dreams. What is it about dreams which even though conveys something surreal and unachievable makes it somehow hopeful and desirable. We all have had dreams at some point in our lives, most of which we hardly remember anymore. Then of course there are some who dream more often than others. Rather, those who believe in their dreams more strongly. Is there anything wrong about dreaming? I would say no. I mean it is a very natural human behavior. In fact all those who have achieved great things have been great dreamers. Einstein was a dreamer and so was Mozart. How do I know it? Because they had a vision. Everyone believes what they see and hear but to see something which doesn't exist. To believe when you have everything going against you, that is being a true dreamer. I am sure the first person to sit back and stare at night sky and say " I want to go to moon " was laughed at and ridiculed. It must have been hilarious when Wright Brothers said they want to fly. Dreams could be silly or most impractical but that's what makes them so great. Because each dream has a potential to come true.

Which brings us to Realists. Although we commonly use realist as synonym to pessimist, that's not entirely true. A realist accepts the world as it literally is and uses facts and past events into consideration. Realism is what happens when we start growing old. With experience we start seeing flaws in our perfect plans to achieve that dream. To be honest more often realism is a buzz killer.
 For Example :
Dreamer -" I want to be a great singer"
Realist - " I don't have a good voice to become singer so give it up!"

Now the difference between our dreams and that of great achievers mentioned before are that they actually made their dreams come true. They didn't just think about it and leave. But those who knows their challenges and short comings but still decide to go ahead and work on making that dream a reality are the one's who go back with a smile.

I always saw myself as a realist who wants to be a dreamer. Or maybe it is the other way around. Nonetheless, as I sat confused and little lost I heard someone say something which made perfect sense.

“There are dreamers and there are realists in this world, you think the dreamers would find the dreamers and the realists would find the realists, but more often than not the opposite is true. See the dreamers need the realists to keep the dreamers from soaring too close to the sun. And the realists? Well without the dreamers, they might not ever get off the ground”.

I think each of us have a dreamer and realist inside us. And sometimes they need to work together to cherish in life.
